I could literally wake up tomorrow and change my mind. When I got out of the theater for the documentary of the iconic children television TV show host Mr. Rogers, I saw nothing being able to top it as the film of the year. In a way, I was right too. No film has had this truly of an emotional impact on my entire life. This is the type of emotional catharsis that can only be found in films like The Shaw shank Redemption or It’s a Wonderful Life, and this is a Documentary for peters sake. Won’t You Be My Neighbor is a beautiful film that was put together so nicely with a lovely score, beautiful animated segments and a really nice flow to a really compelling character study to a man I truly find to be one of the true heroes of our time. Towards the end of this film- Mr. Rogers wife tells us that one of the last questions he asked his wife on his death bed is if he was a goat or a sheep. We all know the answer to that question, Mr. Rogers was one of the most beautiful sheep to ever come into this world, and we can all only strive to be sheep of our own and do good for others. Just thinking about this one gets me teary eyed, one of the most heartwarming and rewarding film experiences you could ever take, and easily the best Documentary anyone has ever made period. This movie FLOORED me. I really enjoyed the first Paddington but Paul King took everything he learned there and made a legit masterpiece. Paddington 2 is a movie framed and paced like a Wes Anderson movie; it feels like a giant pop up book. Each and everything they do here makes the film just feel like a delight. So many touches added from the best of Charlie Chaplin’s films. The slapstick is always funny and the wit in this film is so sharp. This Philadelphia Eagles Merry Christmas to all and to all a Eagle hoodie resonates though, more then most do in an incredibly remarkable way. I’ve always loved films that were able to take concepts made for children that then resonate for a variety of issues, for instance films like Where the Wild Things Are and The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Paddington 2 odes that.
