Recycled Red Glass Chippings

Category:
Recycled Red Glass Chippings A deep, rich red with the kind of light-catching depth that ordinary aggregate simply can’t match — Red Recycled Glass Chippings make a dramatic visual statement on any project they touch. The angular shapes catch and refract the light, so a memorial cover or candle arrangement feels alive rather than flat. And every chipping started life as a glass bottle that would otherwise have been thrown away. A green choice, dressed up as a statement piece. Where Recycled Red Glass Chippings work The deep, saturated red and angular shapes give these chippings real versatility. They feature in projects ranging from memorials to candle styling: Memorial gardens and grave dressing — used as a full blanket cover or paired with red granite headstones such as Pandora, Aurora Red and Paradiso for a tonal match. Floral arrangements and centrepieces — florists use them as a statement filler in clear vases, where the angular cuts reflect the light. Candle crafts — laid in a dish or hurricane lamp around a candle, the chippings glow with the flame. Decorative styling and event displays for weddings, christenings and milestone parties where a confident colour is wanted. Terrazzo and decorative concrete blended into custom aggregate palettes. How they’re made — and why the colour stays The process is fully circular. Used glass bottles are collected, melted at high temperature, and mixed with a permanent red dye that becomes part of the glass itself. The molten glass is then cooled into sheets, crushed into angular chippings, polished to take the sharp edges off, and bagged ready for use. Two things matter about that. The integral colour means the chippings won’t fade in sunlight or release pigment into surrounding soil and water — they keep their deep red through every Irish winter. And the polishing step means you can handle the chippings safely without the worry that comes with freshly crushed glass — the edges are defined and visible, but they aren’t sharp. Each chipping measures roughly 20 mm in length. No two pieces are identical in shape or size, which gives the finished surface a genuinely natural, hand-made look rather than the uniform appearance of machine-cut aggregate. Sizes, packaging and how much to order Supplied by the bag, ready for decorative or memorial use. Pick the quantity based on the size of the area you’re covering and the depth of fill you want. Use case Coverage guide 1 × 25 kg bag ~0.25 m² at decorative depth (50 mm) 4 × 25 kg bags ~1 m² at decorative depth Average single Irish grave (full cover) ~6 × 25 kg bags 1 tonne (bulk bag) ~10–12 m² at decorative depth Use the Online Calculator to work out the exact quantity for your area, or order a small sample bag first if you want to test the colour against an existing headstone or surround. Saturated reds can read differently in showroom light versus daylight, so a sample is the safest way to commit to a larger order. FAQs Will the red colour fade in the Irish climate? No. The dye is added during the melt and becomes part of the glass body, so the chippings are colourfast under sun, rain and frost. They look the same after several Irish winters as they do the day they arrive. Are the chippings safe to handle? Yes. Although they have an angular look with defined edges and pointed corners, the polishing stage removes any sharp edges. They can be handled by hand without protective gloves. Are these chippings really recycled? Yes. They’re produced from 100% post-consumer recycled glass — bottles and jars that would otherwise be sent to landfill. Choosing them is a sustainable decision without compromising on colour or finish. Need a hand choosing the right size or quantity? Call our team or use live chat.
